In een beginjaren over een staat Turkije vond ons serie opstanden bij sommige Koerden regio. De allereerste opstand was de Kocgiri opstand aangaande alevitische Koerden, welke een onafhankelijk Koerdistan tot streven hadden. Die opstand werden neergeslagen door Turkije. De 2e opstand stond bij leiding betreffende sjeik Said, een soennitische Koerdische geestelijke. Tevens deze opstand werden onderdrukt en sjeik Said werden gearresteerd en opgehangen. Voor een derde opstand, in 1927, riepen de Koerden in dit noordoosten over nederland de Republiek Ararat uit.
Na de val aangaande Ur in 2004 v.Chr. is dit niet zo overduidelijk wat er betreffende een stad gebeurd kan zijn. Urbel, bijvoorbeeld een stad in die tijd genoemd werden, mag geoorloofd enige tijd zijn onafhankelijkheid gehandhaafd beschikken over. Onder het rijk met Šamši-Adad viel het geoorloofd in het begin tussen Qabra. Deze plaats kan zijn wellicht met Tell Baqrta gelijk te stellen, zo'n 28 km zuidzuidwestelijk.
The first Kurdish newspaper appeared in 1897 and was published at intervals until 1902. It was revived at Istanbul in 1908 (when the first Kurdish political club, with an affiliated cultural society, was also founded) and again in Cairo during World War I. The Treaty ofwel Sèvres, drawn up in 1920, provided for an autonomous Kurdistan but was never ratified; the Treaty of Lausanne (1923), which replaced the Treaty of Sèvres, made no mention ofwel Kurdistan or the Kurds.
The Kurds built many monumental castles in the lands which they ruled, especially in what was called 'Kurdistan of Syria' and in Damuscus, the capital of Syria. A tall building, called 'Qalha', is still standing, in the mid south-west quarter ofwel Damascus. The Ayubian dynasty continued there for many years, all from Kurdish descent.
In the Islamic world ofwel the early Middle Ages, the word had a loose meaning. The meaning was variable, and people gave many tribes and nomadic peoples the word Kurd.
